The Five Corners Quintet - Chasin' The Jazz Gone By (2026 Re-Issue)
The Five Corners Quintet launched in 2003 with their first 10" vinyl release, "Trading Eights", which also gave a start to Helsinki's Ricky-Tick Records. A brainchild of producer Tuomas Kallio and label boss Antti Eerikäinen, The Five Corners Quintet paved their own way in early 2000's "postmodern" jazz, rooted in the golden era of hard bop, but applying a contemporary idea of combining studio production and live instrumentation. The result stands the test of time, placing the music just slightly outside of the jazz timeline. Soon after, the project also morphed into a highly successful live band featuring a stellar lineup of young musicians that would become key players in the Finnish jazz scene later on. Their 2005 debut, now re-released on vinyl for the first time, adds to the mix legends like Mark Murphy, Eero Koivistoinen and Severi Pyysalo.
Ricky-Tick Records releases the 2025 edition of Chasin' the Jazz Gone By on yellow and black double vinyl to celebrate the album's 20th anniversary, and the (temporary) return of the Five Corners live band, appearing at select festivals in Finland during 2025.
