Girl Ray — Earl Grey

Girl Ray — Earl Grey

Girl Ray, the North London (Finchley to be precise) three-piece comprising 19 year-olds Poppy Hankin (guitar/vocals), Iris McConnell (drums) and Sophie Moss (bass),  provide a mature debut release that belies their age.

With nods to Motown, 60s psych-pop and 90s Brit-pop, the album stretches far beyond its indie core. The group have managed to avoid the pitfall of a disjointed mess, that can result from trying to bring numerous influences to bear in a single album.

Instead it is a cohesive release full of great melodies, from a band that have a bright future.
